Timothy McGAW: “Ivy” - The New Single

The story behind the song
Inspiration for a new song struck on Christmas Eve, coming in the form of a few cluster chords and the beginnings of a melody. I ruminated on this during Christmas Day, coming back to record the finished idea on Boxing Day, over the course of a few short hours. This makes the song one my fastest to be turned around from inception to completion. Everything about this song just sort of fell into place in a way, which I find is something that tends to happen when a strong initial idea has been planted in my mind. The minimal, almost sparse arrangement of this one also meant there wasn’t a whole lot that had to be done to finish it. Just recording a few parts and applying some gentle compression and eq.
I am not fond of explaining away the meaning behind song imagery or lyrics, preferring to let the work speak for itself. In fact, I think to explain what I was thinking when I wrote any song would rob the listener of the delightful business of interpretation.
“Ivy” releases on all streaming platforms on Friday 6th February 2026. I have decided to share the short lyrics ahead of the release, however…
Lyrics for “Ivy” by Timothy Mcgaw
Where are you go,
When the ivy takes day?
Where are I go,
When your blossom blows far?
Where are you go,
When your limbs fall down?
Where are you go, when the ivy takes day?
Where are you go, when the ivy takes day?
